Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu has downplayed the significance of his spectacular volley against Fatih Karagümrük, insisting it does not rank among the best goals of his career, despite its impact in a dramatic 4–3 victory.
The Nigerian forward lit up the Trendyol Süper Lig encounter with a moment of brilliance, firing home a volley to put Trabzonspor 2–1 ahead in what eventually became a seven-goal thriller over the weekend.
Speaking after the match, Onuachu expressed delight with the team’s performance but was modest about his own contribution.
“First of all, I’d like to congratulate my teammates on the three points. I’m happy the team won, and I’m even more happy that I scored. It was a good match for us today,” he said.
Reflecting on the goal, Onuachu described it as instinctive but suggested that another strike in a previous game may have edged it in terms of quality.
“I watched the goal I scored again. It’s good that you reminded me of it. I also remembered the goal I scored against Konyaspor. I need to look at both, but I can say the goal against Konyaspor was better than the one I scored today,” he explained.
“If I had to describe it, it was an instinctive goal. I had to make a split-second decision, and thankfully it worked. It was a good shot, but I’ll rewatch both and make up my mind.”
The 29-year-old’s goal proved crucial in securing victory for Trabzonspor in Matchweek Seven, as the Black Sea Storm held on for a nervy but vital three points.
