2023 CAF Awards: Randy Waldrum out of reckoning for Women’s Coach of the Year

Former Head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, Randy Waldrum has dropped out of the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF Women’s Coach of the Year.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the shortlist of the final three coaches for the awards on Thursday and American tactician was surprisingly missing out.
Former Moroccan women’s national team coach who took the team to the Round of 16 at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia made the shortlist after leading the North African side to the knockout stage in their debut appearance.
Another coach who led her team to the Round of 16 of the global showpiece, South Africa’s Desiree Ellis also made the shortlist ahead of Waldrum.
Her compatriot, Jerry Tshabalala who won the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Ivory Coast complete the top three shortlisted coach.
Waldrum also guided the Super Falcons to the Round of 16 of the World Cup. His assistant, Justine Madugu had taken charge of the team after the expiration of his contract in October.
Nigeria has a representative in other categories of the 2023 CAF Awards in Young Player (women), goalkeeper (women), National Team (women), and Player of the Year (women and women) shortlists of the final three.
The awards will be held on December 11, in Morocco.
