2026 World Cup Qualifier: Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees eyes Nigeria’s downfall in Kigali

By Dayo Awoniyi

Zimbabwe’s head coach, Michael Nees, is confident that his team, the Warriors, can secure a shocking victory against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Despite Nigeria’s impressive history, including three Africa Cup of Nations titles, Nees believes the Super Eagles are vulnerable and ripe for the taking.

He pointed out that both teams are under pressure to perform, commenting, “Like us, Nigeria is under pressure. They’re like wounded lions, eager to bounce back after a poor start to the qualifiers.”

The match has heightened importance, with Nigeria currently in fifth place in Group C with just three points from four matches, while Zimbabwe sits at the bottom with two points.

A victory for Zimbabwe would be a major upset and could significantly boost their World Cup qualifying chances.
