By Saheed Afolabi
Delta Queens kicked off their campaign in the West African Football Union Zone B Champions League by thrashing USFA from Burkina Faso 3-0 in Benin City on Sunday.
Stand out performer and player of the match, Chinaza Agoh led the Asaba based outfit to trounce their Burkinabe rivals at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Folajomi Olabiyi, Agoh and substitute Mercy Omokwo found the back of the net for the Pearls in the explosive encounter.
Before USFA could settle into the game, Olabiyi found the back of the net to give Delta Queens an early lead as early as five minutes.
The Pearls dominated proceedings after taking the lead and threw away several chances to add to their tally in the first 45 minutes.
The second half brought more composure to the Delta Queens rank and the introduction of prolific forward, Mercy the gave the team more bite in the second half.
Tricky winger, Agoh combined well with Omokwo to double the Pearls lead in the 61st minute.
When it actually looks all was going well for the Asaba based side, Vera Samuel got into the trouble books of the center referee as she was sent off to reduce Delta Queens to ten players on the pitch.
Despite playing with ten players, the Pearls weren’t deterred as they pegged USFA to their own half.
Omokwo stepped up to head home the third goal for Delta Queens in the 79th minute to wrap up an impressive debut in the Wafu-B Zonal Champions League qualifiers.
