By Monsurah Olatunji

African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, reached a significant milestone as Atalanta demolished Juventus 4-0 at the Allianz Stadium in Serie A, securing a vital win in their bid for Champions League qualification.

The Nigerian international netted his 50th goal for Atalanta since joining the club, further cementing his importance to the team. Lookman was instrumental throughout the match, playing a key role in their commanding victory.

Atalanta took the lead in the 29th minute through a penalty from Mateo Retegui, awarded after Weston McKennie handled the ball in the box.

The visitors doubled their advantage early in the second half, with Marten de Roon tapping in a rebound in the 46th minute after Lookman’s powerful shot was initially parried by Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

The visitors continued their dominance, making it 3-0 when Sead Kolasinac and Davide Zappacosta combined for a brilliant assist, with Zappacosta’s angled drive finding the back of the net through the legs of Juve’s defense.

Lookman then sealed the win with his 50th goal in the 75th minute, capitalizing on a slip from Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic in midfield to race clear and finish past Szczęsny.

Juventus failed to respond, with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi denying McKennie late in the match to preserve the clean sheet.

The victory lifts Atalanta as they continue their push for a top-four finish, with Lookman’s contribution proving crucial to their ongoing success in Serie A.
