Super Falcons forward ready to make debut tournament impact at Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
As the Super Falcons of Nigeria prepare to chase a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, one of their most exciting new additions, Rinsola Babajide, is poised to bring energy, experience, and explosive pace to the squad.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Babajide represented England at youth level and helped the Lionesses claim bronze at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. But in 2023, she opted to represent Nigeria at senior level, debuting in an Olympic qualifier against Ethiopia.
“It’s an honor to play for Nigeria,” Babajide said. “I want my debut senior silverware. I want to contribute to the team — goals, assists, everything.”
The 26-year-old forward arrives at WAFCON in red-hot form. After stints with Crystal Palace, Millwall, Watford, Liverpool, and Brighton, she has found her stride in Spain with UDG Tenerife — notching 10 goals and 5 assists in 26 appearances during the 2024–25 Liga F season.
Her journey hasn’t been without setbacks. A period of limited minutes and reported friction at Liverpool threatened to derail her progress, but her move to Spain has reignited her career.
Now, as Nigeria eyes Mission X — a historic 10th continental title — Babajide offers versatility, ambition, and a deep emotional connection to the green and white jersey.
“I sing a little,” she shared with a smile. “And I miss my parents, my family, and my boyfriend.”
That vulnerability underscores her motivation. Representing Nigeria is more than a professional milestone — it’s personal.
With head coach Justin Madugu leading a blend of youth and experience, Babajide’s attacking threat could prove decisive in tight games. As the tournament unfolds, all eyes will be on the London-born star embracing her Nigerian roots — and chasing continental glory.
