Christy Ucheibe’s SL Benfica retain Taca da Liga title in Portugal

Nigeria midfielder, Christy Ucheibe and her Portuguese women’s top flight side, SL Benfica retained the 2023/2024 Taca da Portugal title on Wednesday.

Portuguese women’s league holders edged Sporting 1-0 to successfully defend their title.

Canadian player, Chandra Davidson scored the all-important goal for SL Benfica in the 84th minute at the Estadio do Restelo, Lisbon.

The journey started in the quarter final where SL Benfica recorded an 8-1 aggregate thrashing over Ouriense.

They sealed their passage to the final with a 6-3 win on aggregate against Valadares Gaia.

The team in the process has won four out of the last five Taca da Liga titles since the 2019/2020 season.

Their only loss in the final was a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Braga at the end of the 2021/2022 campaign.

Ucheibe and her teammates are still in contention to win the league and Taca da Portugal titles.

Unsurprisingly the Portuguesu powerhouse is having a wondeful campaign after reaching yhe quarter final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL).
