Mercy Idoko assists Racing Power to shock victory over Sporting Lisbon

Former Nigeria youth international, Mercy Idoko provided the assist as her Racing Power edged second-placed Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in a Portuguese topflight encounter on Sunday.

Idoko who has scored two league goals ahead of the game played a crucial role in lifting her side to a previous win.

The former Nigeria U20 forward set up Jenny Vetter who scored the winning goal in the 54th minute.

That was her second assist in the league this season for the newly promoted team.

The 21-year-old is enjoying a scintilating start to life in her first season with the team after completing her move from the Israeli side, Hapoel Katamon.

The striker previously played for Confluence Queens and Nasarawa Amazons in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership before moving abroad.

At the national team level, she was part of the Nigerian U-20 side that reached the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The victory lifted Racing Power to the fourth position on the table with 26 points after 13 games.

Racing will next face Maritimo at home on March 3, 2024, after the international break.
