Nigeria U20 midfielder Esther Onyenezide says she feels great about being invited to the senior national team and is excited about the prospect of making her debut for the Super Falcons against Japan.
Onyenezide was one of the star performers for the Falconets at the last FIFA U20 World Cup in Costa Rica and has been rewarded with a late call-up to Randy Waldrum’s side for the tune up game against the Samurai Ladies.
The Robo Queens star, who led their Lagos outfit to 2022 Betsy Obaseki Cup title, could not make her debut in the doubleheader friendly against the United States but is upbeat about making her senior bow against Japan in Kobe.
“I got the first invitation, I went to the US but I did not play the first and second leg. I feel so great and good,” Onyenezide told NFF TV.
“I was not expecting it, maybe it is because of my impact in the U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica that made them to invite me. They are so lovely. They took me as their own. They treat me as one of them.
On her second adventure with the senior team, she is not troubled about not getting playing time, noting her time will come.
“I came to learn, I have to gain some experience. I can’t say this is not my time but when my time comes to play in every match, I will put in everything I have,” she continued.
“I thought they will put me in the game against the US but it was never meant to be, I’m hoping to play again in Japan.”
