Fidelis Ilechukwu fumes over Enugu Rangers dropped points at Bendel Insurance

By Dayo Awoniyi

Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has expressed his displeasure following his team’s failure to secure all three points in their NPFL Matchday 32 encounter against Bendel Insurance.

The match, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, ended in a 0-0 draw, leaving Ilechukwu frustrated after his team failed to capitalize on several chances.

Despite acknowledging the competitive nature of the match, the Rangers boss made it clear that he viewed the draw as a missed opportunity.

“It was a good match, and we came prepared to pick the maximum points at stake, but we are happy with the result. This is a result I can say was two points dropped for us,” Ilechukwu said.

“We continue to work hard in our remaining fixtures to ensure we end the season on a high.”

Both teams had their fair share of chances, but neither was able to break the deadlock, leading to a share of the spoils in the end.

The result brings Rangers’ tally to 46 points from 32 matches. While the point secured from the away game is valuable, Ilechukwu will be looking for a much-needed win in their next fixture.

Rangers will turn their focus to the highly anticipated Oriental derby against Heartland FC, which is set to take place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu next weekend.

Looking ahead, the draw also means that both Rangers and Bendel Insurance are preparing for their upcoming Round of 16 clash in the President Federation Cup 2025.

The match is scheduled for April 16, 2025, in Lagos, with a quarterfinal spot up for grabs.

Rangers will be determined to bounce back from the dropped points and deliver a strong performance in their next fixture.
