Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon has admitted that he’s not a happy man following his side’s 1-1 draw by Royal Queens at the University of Port Harcourt stadium on Wednesday.
Juanita Aguadze gave the Jewel of Rivers the lead in the 36th minute but the Warri based visitors left it late to snatch a valuable away point through Azeezat Obadun’s strike in Port-Harcourt.
In the wake of the result, the former Super Falcons coach expressed his fustration over his side’s missed chances against Royal Queens, while explaining their disappointing display.
“I am not a happy man at all, no coach in my position will be after the final result,” Okon told media.
“We missed a lot of chances in today’s game and the absence of two of our midfielders didn’t help the team today (Wednesday). This isn’t a game we should be dropping points.
“The freekick that led to their goal wasn’t supposed to be but I am not here to question the referee’s decision because it can’t be changed. We just need to focus on our next game.”
Rivers Angels won a record seventh Nigerian title in 2021 and qualify for the inaugural edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League – a feat they could not repeat in 2022 as they finished behind holders Bayelsa Queens.
The Jewel of Rivers are third on the log of NWFL Premiership group A with ten points from seven matches and the experienced tactician has refuted fears that his team is under pressure while seeking more motivation for the girls.
“We are not under any pressure, the girls just need to feel at home and be better encouraged to give their best while on the pitch. This has come and gone, lessons have been learnt as well,” he concluded.
Rivers Angels will play host to second place Bayelsa Queens in their next game in Port-Harcourt as they hope to redeem their home form this season.
