Davido makes cash contribution to Stanley Nwabali ahead of parent’s burial

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Afrobeats sensation Davido has once again demonstrated his remarkable generosity by contributing #5 million to Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who recently experienced the loss of both his parents within a four-month period.

This heartfelt gesture has elicited emotional responses across social media, highlighting the artist’s unwavering dedication to supporting fellow Nigerians during their personal hardships.

Nwabali, who garnered national admiration during the AFCON 2023 tournament for his outstanding performance in goal, confirmed the death of his father in early June 2024, just months after the passing of his mother in February.

The devastating double loss has left the 27-year-old goalkeeper grappling with both personal sorrow and public responsibilities under the burden of national expectations.

Davido, recognized not only for his musical talent but also for his philanthropic nature, sent the financial assistance directly to Nwabali as a private act of kindness.

However, news of this generous act surfaced online on Tuesday, June 4, igniting widespread acclaim for the music icon.

This is yet another occasion where Davido has leveraged his platform and wealth to uplift others, particularly those enduring tragic life events.

According to reliable sources, Davido made the donation discreetly without any public announcement or media coverage.

The artist, whose real name is David Adeleke, is well-known for his spontaneous acts of charity.

His 2021 birthday fundraiser-turned-donation campaign resulted in over #250 million being donated to orphanages throughout Nigeria, a legacy that continues to resonate.

Nwabali has not issued a formal public statement regarding Davido’s gift, but sources close to the goalkeeper have confirmed that he was profoundly touched by the display of support.

The Chippa United goalkeeper is anticipated to return to Nigeria later this week for the final burial arrangements for his father in Rivers State.

Fans nationwide have taken to social media to commend Davido’s compassion. Many have characterized the donation as a “symbol of unity between the entertainment and sports sectors,” while others have called on more celebrities to offer similar support.
