Kano Pillars show Rangers exit door of 2024 President Federation Cup

Enugu Rangers, current leaders of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), faced a surprising exit from this year’s tournament.

In a dramatic Round of 64 match against fellow NPFL side, Kano Pillars, the game stretched to penalties after a thrilling encounter that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Mustapha Umar gave Kano Pillars the lead in the first half, but Chiedozie Okotie’s equalizer for Rangers took the game to penalties. Ultimately, Kano Pillars emerged victorious with a 6-5 penalty shootout win, securing their spot in the Round of 32.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors, another NPFL team, showcased their dominance by defeating Ilaji FC of Oyo State 4-2. Megwo Sunday starred for Abia Warriors, opening the scoring early and doubling the lead before Pascal Nwabueze further extended their advantage.

Despite a consolation penalty from Sulaimon Rasheed for Ilaji FC, Abia Warriors comfortably secured their progression to the next round.

In other matches, Enyimba, a powerhouse in Nigerian football, displayed their resilience by overcoming Warinje FC 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Plateau United received a walkover against Ekiti United, while Zamfara Feeders, Doma United, and Warri Wolves claimed victories in their respective encounters.

As the men’s competition progresses, anticipation builds for the upcoming Round of 32 matches in the Women’s President Federation Cup, promising more thrilling football action ahead.
