By Dayo Awoniyi

The Nasarawa State Government has awarded ₦30 million to the Nasarawa Amazons in recognition of the team’s impressive performance during the 2024/25 football season, where they finished as runners-up in both the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and the President Federation Cup.

Governor Abdullahi Sule announced the reward during a state ceremony held to honour athletes and teams who excelled in the sporting season.

He described the Amazons as “a source of pride for Nasarawa” and expressed confidence that the team would go on to win major trophies in the near future.

According to the breakdown, ₦25 million was allocated to the players, while ₦5 million was awarded to the coaching staff.

The gesture forms part of a broader ₦75 million package disbursed by the state government to celebrate sporting excellence.

Nasarawa United, the state’s men’s football team, received ₦25 million—₦20 million for the players and ₦5 million for the technical crew.

Other beneficiaries included: Festival Team – ₦10 million, Nasarawa United Feeders – ₦5 million, and Supporters Club – ₦5 million.

In addition to the official awards, Governor Sule pledged personal financial gifts to individual players of both the Amazons and Nasarawa United as a token of appreciation for their contribution to promoting the state through football.

“This recognition is not just a reward for past efforts, but motivation for future excellence,” the governor said.

The Nasarawa Amazons’ strong campaign has reaffirmed their status as one of Nigeria’s top women’s football clubs and raised hopes for an even more successful 2025/26 season.
