NPFL: Remo Stars maintain title bid with victory over Niger Tornadoes

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Remo Stars returned to winning ways with a 3-0 success over Niger Tornadoes in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter in Ikenne on Friday.

The Sky Blue Stars had suffered a 1-0 loss to Plateau United in their previous game and needed to bounce back which they did with the opener after 28 minutes.

Sikiru Alimi gave the home team the lead from the spot after Sylvester Bell was ruled to have fouled an opponent in the box.

Three minutes later, Daniel Ogunmodede’s side doubled the lead as Alimi made it 2-0 to the hosts. Remo Stars went three up through Ahmed Akinyele in the 74th minute.

After 31 games, Remo Stars moved to the second position with 53 points, a point behind Enugu Rangers. The Ikenne-based side has an outstanding match against former league winners, Rivers United.

Niger Tornadoes sit in the tenth position with 42 points from 31 games. They also have an outstanding match to play against the Pride of Rivers.

Matchday 32 of the NPFL will continue on Saturday and Sunday as teams continue to jostle for continental qualifications and relegation survival.
