CHAN 2024: Super Eagles B to play in Zanzibar as CAF confirms tournament venues

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the match venues for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team set to play their group-stage matches in Zanzibar.

The tournament, which features only players active in domestic leagues, will be co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda from August 2 to August 30, 2025.

The opening match will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, while the final is scheduled for August 30 at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium in Kampala will host the third-place playoff.

CHAN 2024 Key Venue Schedule:

  • Opening Match: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Saturday, 2 August

  • Third-Place Match: Kampala, Uganda

  • Final Match: Nairobi, Kenya – Saturday, 30 August

Zanzibar, which successfully hosted the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup Final at Amaan Stadium, has also been confirmed as one of the tournament venues.

The Super Eagles B will play their matches there, marking a significant spotlight for the island territory.

Nigeria qualified for the CHAN finals after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana in December 2024. The team, made up of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League, will be aiming to improve on their third-place finish at the 2014 edition held in South Africa.

CAF’s choice of venues reflects its growing commitment to expanding the reach and inclusivity of African football across diverse regions of the continent.
