Shanghai Shenhua’s prolific striker, Obafemi Martins, downplayed the significance of his remarkable hat-trick against Hebei CFFC, emphasizing that securing three crucial points for his team took precedence over individual achievements. Martins shone in their recent Chinese Super League clash, guiding Shanghai Shenhua to a 4-2 victory on Saturday.
Despite scoring thrice in a thrilling encounter, Martins, in an interview with The 33, expressed his joy in contributing to the team’s success, stating, “I’m so happy to get the goal. I missed some chances, but I had to fight with my teammates and ended up scoring three goals. I feel great to have scored a hat-trick. I am happy for the team because winning the game is much more important. We did great today and I’m glad that we won.”
The 33-year-old striker showcased his scoring prowess by opening the scoring for Shanghai Shenhua in the 62nd minute, responding to Hebei CFFC’s lead established by Chengdong Zhang in the 48th minute.
Martins continued to lead the comeback, securing his second goal in the 76th minute after Hebei’s Ezequiel Lavezzi found the net. Freddy Guarin’s contribution with a goal in the 82nd minute ensured Shenhua took the lead, setting the stage for Martins to complete his hat-trick with a goal in the 90th minute, sealing the 4-2 victory.
The triumph not only highlighted Martins’ individual brilliance but also underscored the collective strength of Shanghai Shenhua, as they continue to pursue success in the Chinese Super League.
