U17 WWC: Nigeria suffer opening defeat to Germany

The U17 women’s national team of Germany on Tuesday edged the Nigeria’s Flamingoes 2-1.
The two teams clashed for the first ever meeting at this level in Goa but the European champions came from behind to win triumph contest after 90 minutes.
Miracle Usani gave Nigeria the opening goal in the 30th minute through a penalty and the Flamingoes took the lead into the half time.
The German side returned for the second half as the better side as they seized control of the game and pegged back Nigeria.
Their effort finally paid off as they got an equaliser in the 50th minute through Hamburg midfielder Stoldt after a mix-up in Nigeria’s defence.
Flamingoes missed an opportunity to regain their lead in the 60th minute through Opeyemi Ajakaiye before Alber netted the second goal for Germany a minute later.
The Nigerian side pushed for an equalizer but the German backline was able to hold on and secure a 2-1 win.
Flamingoes will have another opportunity to redeem their battered image when they face New Zealand in the second group game on October 14.
