FC Porto’s Sporting Director, Diogo Boa Alma, has revealed that former head coach Sérgio Conceição repeatedly blocked Nigerian defender Zaidu Sanusi’s transfer to the English Premier League.
Sanusi has been a key player for FC Porto since joining the team, attracting interest from several European clubs, including those in the Premier League.
However, Conceição deemed him indispensable, preventing his transfer despite receiving “high-value offers” from Premier League clubs.
“I know Sérgio Conceição stopped Zaidu Sanusi from leaving multiple times because he was a crucial player for him,” Boa Alma said.
The sporting director disclosed that FC Porto received offers of up to €20 million for Sanusi, but the club decided not to sell him due to his importance to the team.
Boa Alma believes that Sanusi is well-suited for the Premier League and wouldn’t be surprised if he secures a transfer this season.
“Porto missed a good financial opportunity with him,” Boa Alma added.
