Blessing Okpe: Federation Cup success wipes away NWFL Super Six heartbreak

By Saheed Afolabi

Rivers Angels’ tricky winger, Blessing Okpe, believes the President Federation Cup title win has wiped off the heartbreak endured at the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six in Yenagoa.

Okpe, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2024 President Federation Cup for her exceptional performances, scored ten goals in five matches and netted the goal that clinched the title for the Jewel of Rivers.

Expressing her elation at winning the MVP honors, Okpe emphasized the hard work and determination that led the team to emerge as champions despite numerous challenges.

“I feel so great to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the President Federation Cup,” Okpe told nigeriafootball.ng exclusively. “We felt so bad after the Super Six and took it upon ourselves to challenge for the Federation Cup title. We worked hard for it.”

Okpe also appreciated the management for their financial motivation and support, which played a crucial role in the team’s success.

“I can define Rivers Angels’ run in the Federation Cup as a combination of hard work, prayer, and determination to win the title,” he continued.

“We want to thank the governor of Rivers State for motivating us financially and with words of encouragement. Both the state and the fans are very proud of us now.”
