Werder Bremen have indicated their readiness to retain Felix Agu beyond his current contract, with the club’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, confirming that discussions over a new deal remain a possibility.
Agu, whose existing contract runs until 2027, endured an injury-disrupted 2025/26 season.
The 26-year-old full-back spent nearly four months sidelined with an ankle injury suffered in October before later battling muscular problems that further limited his appearances.
The defender featured in just 11 Bundesliga matches as Werder Bremen secured their top-flight status, leading to speculation about his long-term future at the club.
Speaking to DeichStube, Niemeyer revealed that the club remains keen on extending Agu’s stay.
“There haven’t been any further talks so far, but we are generally open to a contract extension,” he said.
While formal negotiations have not yet resumed since initial discussions during the winter, both Werder Bremen and Agu’s representatives are expected to revisit talks during the summer as they assess the player’s future.
