AFCON 2025: Eric Chelle Keeps Cards Close to Chest Ahead of Super Eagles–Tunisia Clash

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has adopted a cautious and tactical approach ahead of Nigeria’s crucial Group C showdown with Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting that his final game plan and team selection will only be decided after thorough evaluation.

Speaking to the media before the highly anticipated encounter, Chelle praised the Carthage Eagles while making it clear that he would not reveal his tactical intentions in advance.

“Tunisia are a very good side, so I can’t reveal my plans now,” Chelle said. “We will remain true to our philosophy, but at the same time we will evaluate whether there is a need to adjust something in the line-up.”

The gaffer further hinted that he is weighing up two different tactical approaches, underlining the respect he has for Tunisia’s pedigree and experience on the continental stage.

“I have two ideas in mind—either we allow Tunisia to have the ball or we continue with our usual philosophy,” Chelle added. “I won’t say which option we will choose because Tunisia are a great team.”

Both Nigeria and Tunisia come into the match on three points after winning their opening fixtures, making Saturday’s clash potentially decisive in the race to finish top of Group C and secure early qualification to the Round of 16.

Chelle’s comments suggest a coach keen on balance—staying faithful to Nigeria’s attacking identity while remaining flexible enough to respond to the specific threats posed by the North Africans. As anticipation builds in Fès, all eyes will be on which of Chelle’s “two ideas” the Super Eagles ultimately deploy on the pitch.
