Bhutan Premier League side Thimphu City FC have officially announced the signing of former Nigeria international John Owoeri.
At 39, Owoeri brings a wealth of experience to the Bhutanese club, having enjoyed a career that spanned multiple countries and competitive levels. He is perhaps best remembered for his standout performances with Nigeria’s U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, during the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Owoeri played a key role in the Nigerian side that reached the final of the tournament, ultimately finishing as runners-up to an Argentina team inspired by Lionel Messi. His pace and attacking threat made him one of the notable figures in that memorable campaign.
That Flying Eagles squad also featured several players who went on to achieve significant success at the senior level, including John Obi Mikel, Taye Taiwo, and Dele Adeleye.
Owoeri’s move to Thimphu City FC marks a new chapter in his career, as the Bhutan Premier League continues to attract experienced international talent to boost its competitiveness and profile.
