Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi has shared his thoughts following Nottingham Forest F.C.’s impressive 3-1 victory over Chelsea F.C. at Stamford Bridge.
The Nigerian forward was the standout performer, scoring a brace and winning a penalty as a much-changed Forest side boosted their survival hopes in the English Premier League.
The match also marked Awoniyi’s 100th appearance for Forest, making the performance even more significant. His brace was his first in the league since May 2023—coincidentally also against Chelsea.
Awoniyi Credits Team Effort
Reflecting on the result, the 28-year-old emphasized the team’s determination and strong start to the game.
“We came here with the mentality to win, good ball from [Dilane] Bakwa [for his goal] as well and the way we started the game, we had more of the ball, brilliant from the team,” Awoniyi said in an interview with Sky Sports, via BBC.
The victory represents a major step forward for Nottingham Forest in their push to avoid relegation, while also underlining Awoniyi’s importance to the squad.
With momentum building, Forest will be hoping to build on the result as the Premier League season approaches its final stretch.
