Sadiq Umar Shines as Valencia Edge Girona in Crucial La Liga Clash

Nigeria international Sadiq Umar continued his impressive run of form with a standout performance as Valencia CF secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Girona FC at the Estadio de Mestalla on Saturday.

Fresh from scoring in the previous match against Mallorca, the Super Eagles striker vindicated his selection by head coach Carlos Corberán, delivering a decisive contribution in a high-stakes encounter as Valencia aimed to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

Valencia began brightly, dominating possession and creating early chances. Sadiq nearly broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, but his effort drifted just wide after finding space in the box. Despite their strong start, the hosts went into halftime without a goal.

The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart when Largie Ramazani calmly finished a well-constructed move involving Javi Guerra. Moments later, Sadiq rose highest in the box to power home a header, doubling Valencia’s advantage and sending the home crowd into celebration.

Girona responded in the 63rd minute through Joel Roca, setting up a tense finale. Sadiq was later substituted for Hugo Duro as Valencia shifted focus to preserving their lead.

The hosts held firm under late pressure to secure all three points—a vital result that lifts Valencia to 11th place with 39 points from 33 matches, strengthening their bid to avoid relegation in Spain’s top flight.
