Afcon 2023: ‘I am his friend’ – Jose Peseiro responds to Jose Mourinho’s comment

Head Coach of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro has responded to comments made by former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager , Jose Mourinho ahead of African Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023 final.
Mourinho who was asked in interview to chose his favorite between Nigeria and Ivory Coast for the title expressed his admiration for Super Eagles’ Coach who he described as best friend in football.
He however tipped Nigeria to win the AFCON tournament as a solidarity for his age long friend.
“My best friend in football is in the final (AFCON). The Nigerian coach is my best friend. He grew up with me, we studied together.
“We went to University on the same day, we spent five years together,” Mourinho had said.
Peseiro was asked before the kickoff of the final and he admitted to Mourinho’s comments adding that:”Of course I spoke with him, I speak with him many times.
“I am his friend, he is a genius in football. I am happy because he supports me. He is my friend, it is good for us.”
Nigeria went on to lose the final 2-1 to Ivory Coast as second half goals from Frank Kessie and Sebastian Haller made William Troost-Ekong’s first half goal a mere consolation.
