Colombia 2024: Christopher Danjuma summons 25 players for Burundi showdown

Head coach of Nigeria U-20 women’s national team, Christopher Danjuma has invited 25 players to camp ahead of next month’s FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup Qualifiers against Burundi.

Goalkeepers Anderlin Mgbechi and Shukurat Bakare, defenders Oluchi Ohaegbulam and Comfort Folorunsho, midfielders Taiwo Afolabi and Adoo Yina, and forwards Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Chisom Chima and Aminat Omowunmi Bello are among the players called up for the game against the East Africans.

FIFA U17 World Cup bronze-medallist goalkeeper Faith Omilana, defenders Jumoke Alani, Emamuzo Edafe, and Shukurat Oladipo, as well as midfielders Chinyere Kalu and Chioma Olise, and forwards Opeyemi Ajakaye, Oluwayemisi Samuel and Janet Akekoromowei also made the squad.

The players invited for the game are expected to report to camp at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on December 27, 2023.

Nigeria beat Tanzania 3-2 on aggregate in the previous round to set up a clash with Burundi.

Burundi will host the first leg of the fixture in Bujumbura within the weekend of 12th – 14th January, with the return leg at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, 20th January.

The winner of the two-legged encounter will book a ticket to the 24-team final tournament in Colombia.

The Falconets reached the quarter-final of the 2022 FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup and hope to qualify for the next edition next year in Colombia.
