2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Predicting Nigeria’s starting XI against Rep of Ireland

As the Nigeria senior women’s national team prepare to face debutant, the Republic of Ireland in the last Group B encounter at the Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, on Monday, nigeriafootball.ng forecasts Randy Waldrum’s selection for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup deciding match.
With the team unlikely to receive Deborah Abiodun from her suspension, Waldrum will keep faith in most of his regulars in the middle of the pack for this crucial game.
Goalkeeper – Chiamaka Nnadozie
The Paris FC goalie is expected to start her third match despite conceding two against co-host Australia on Thursday.
She also put up some saves to deny the Matildas any form of comeback and will be key against the Greens.
Defender – Osinachi Ohale
Barring injury from her knock from the second goal scored against Australia, Ohale is a sure banker to start in defence for the nine-time African champions. Her goal against Australia was crucial, putting her body on the line.

Defender – Tosin Demehin
The back four is expected to remain going into the third group game as the team attempts to make it to the knockout stage in consecutive editions of the tournament. Stade de Reims’ defender is a sure bet to start the match.
Defender – Ashleigh Plumptre
Leicester City FC defender who also started the first two games against Canada and Australia is touted to also start this match.

Defender – Michelle Alozie
Another important player in the squad, Alozie attending her World Cup debut has cemented her place in the starting lineup after an impressive showing against Australia.
Midfielder – Christy Ucheibe
Given her crucial role in the first game which ended in a 0-0 draw, Ucheibe to continue her task in the midfield.

Midfielder – Halimatu Ayinde
Ayinde who returned to the team against Australia after two two-match suspensions can stake a claim to another staters shirt.
Midfielder – Toni Payne
If her knock against Australia wasn’t a major one, expect Payne to start the game.
Forward – Rasheedat Ajibade
With two assists against Australia, no coach will think of benching the Atletico Madrid forward.

Forward – Ifeoma Onumonu
Despite not having a stellar tournament thus far, Waldrum is expected to stick with his loyal forward, Onumonu
Forward – Uchenna Kanu
Kanu who scored her first goal at the World Cup against Canada is also expected to start the game.
