CAF launches .6m ‘impact’ programme to support Nigerian and African Football Federations

By Dayo Awoniyi

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a new funding initiative aimed at strengthening the financial and operational capacity of its member associations, including the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Unveiled during CAF’s Executive Committee meeting on 26 April, the CAF Impact Programme will provide each of the 54 Member Associations and Zonal Unions with up to $1.6 million (€1.3 million), representing a 60% increase from previous funding levels.

In addition to the base allocation, performance-based bonuses of up to $500,000 (€434,000) will be available under defined conditions.

The programme places strong emphasis on transparency and accountability, with independent audits and strict financial regulations guiding fund disbursement and usage.

CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba underscored the importance of accountability, stating: “CAF and its President are committed to ensuring that every dollar invested contributes directly to the growth of African football.”

At least 50% of the funding is earmarked for the development of women’s and youth football, reinforcing CAF’s commitment to inclusive growth across the continent.

In a statement, CAF said the initiative would “shape the future of African football,” creating opportunities “for every nation, every region, and every girl and boy on the continent.”

The CAF Impact Programme marks a significant shift in the governing body’s approach to financial support, aligning funding with performance, development goals, and transparent governance.
