Paris 2024: Marta admits Super Falcons resilience against Brazil

Brazil legend Marta admitted that Nigeria’s senior women’s national team is such a tough opponent to play against.
The South American champions edged nine time African champions 1-0 at the Matmut Atlantique, Bordeaux in the opening Group C match of women’s football tournament of the Olympics on Thursday.
The Orlando Pride star provided the assist for Gabi Nunes who converted the winning goal into the roof of the net moments after her goal was ruled out for an offside.
“Nigeria is a hard team to play against, very difficult to score against them, young players, fast players and very good goalkeeper, but we were happy to find a way into the net for the only goal of the game,” Marta told www.totorinews.com
“We fought to the end and I think Brazil deserved the three points because we fought better than them.”
The win was the third straight victory for Arthur Elias’ side over Super Falcons with a 8-4 aggregate scoreline.
They edged Nigeria 4-3 in the quarter final of 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup before a 3-1 win in the group stage of Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Randy Waldrum’s side will next face world champions Spain on Sunday, the same date in which Brazil square up with 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup winners Japan.
