NNL Chairman Celebrates Progress, Anticipates Thrilling Season-End Tournament

Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL) and Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee, Chief George Aluo, on Thursday expressed delight over the remarkable progress in Nigeria’s second-tier domestic football in recent years.

“This is not about blowing our own trumpet, but I am truly happy that we are making enormous strides. Let me start with the draw ceremony happening on Friday: this is the first time we are hosting such an elaborate event for our season-ending tournament. It never occurred even during the Super Eight era,” Aluo said.

He extended gratitude to the league’s sponsors, Toptier Sports Management, for their consistent support, assuring them that the NNL would continue to provide “positive and far-reaching exposure.”

Aluo also highlighted the promising rise of privately-owned clubs in Nigerian football. All clubs promoted from the NNL this year—Doma United, Sporting Lagos, Rancher Bees, and Inter Lagos—are privately-owned, signaling a shift in the landscape of the top-tier league.

The promoted clubs will participate in the highly-anticipated Super Four Tournament, scheduled to hold at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, from May 1 to 8. The draw ceremony is expected to be a vibrant affair, with notable figures such as the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, in attendance.

Chief Aluo’s optimism reflects a growing momentum in the NNL, emphasizing a period of transformation and exciting prospects for Nigerian domestic football.
