NFF set to complete signing of German coach as Super Eagles gaffer – Report

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reached an agreement to appoint German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new manager of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team.

This decision follows a search for a coach with a proven track record to lead the Super Eagles and rejuvenate their performance.

A high-ranking official, speaking anonymously, confirmed to BSN Sports that Labbadia, known for his successful career both as a player and manager, has been secured for the role.

The official also reiterated the need for a coach with Labbadia’s pedigree to help turn things around for the team, saying: “Nigerians are yearning for a coach with a pedigree that can turn things around for the Super Eagles, and that’s why we go for this great coach.

“As we speak, I can tell you authoritatively that we have completed an agreement with the German tactician to be the next Super Eagles Coach.”

Labbadia, born on February 8, 1966, enjoyed a notable playing career, winning the DFB-Pokal in the 1989-90 season with 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the Bundesliga in 1993-94 with FC Bayern Munich. As a manager, he has had stints with various clubs, including a recent tenure with VfB Stuttgart during the 2022/23 season.

The NFF is expected to make an official announcement soon. Labbadia will replace Finidi George as the head coach, preparing the team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

Nigeria’s qualification campaign kicks off against Benin Republic in Uyo on September 7, 2024, followed by a match against Rwanda three days later.
