Nigerian-descent Wellity Lucky agrees long-term contract renewal with Liverpool

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Liverpool are on the verge of finalizing a long-term contract extension with promising centre-back Wellity Lucky, whose current deal is set to expire this summer.

Born in Zaragoza, Spain to Nigerian parents, the highly-rated 19-year-old has agreed in principle to a new three-year contract.

While he is expected to continue playing a key role for the club’s U21 side, Lucky has already gained valuable experience training with the first team on multiple occasions.

Despite anticipated loan interest from other clubs, the current plan is for Lucky to remain at Liverpool until at least January, when the club will reassess his short-term future.

His renewal comes after being involved in Liverpool’s first-team preparations ahead of their UEFA Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven earlier this year.

Last season, he featured regularly for the U21s with 17 appearances and also played a pivotal role in the U19s’ UEFA Youth League campaign, serving as a consistent starter throughout.

With the 2025/26 Premier League 2 season approaching and Liverpool’s full fixture list expected next month, Lucky is well-placed to continue his development and stake a claim for further involvement at senior level.
