Women’s FA Cup Final: Chiamaka Nnadozie Targets Wembley Glory with Brighton

Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie is on the verge of another career milestone as Brighton & Hove Albion prepare to face Manchester City in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
For the Nigerian international, the occasion represents more than a cup final. It offers an opportunity to cap a remarkable debut season in English football with silverware and further strengthen her reputation as one of the world’s top goalkeepers.
The final, scheduled for a 3 p.m. kick-off, presents Brighton with the chance to secure the first major trophy in the club’s history against the reigning Women’s Super League champions.
Since joining Brighton from French side Paris FC last summer, Nnadozie has quickly established herself as a key figure in the team’s resurgence under head coach Dario Vidosic.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign, recording six clean sheets in 19 Women’s Super League appearances while consistently delivering match-winning performances between the posts.
Her commanding displays have earned widespread acclaim, confirming her status as one of the league’s standout goalkeepers.
Nnadozie has played a crucial role in Brighton’s impressive FA Cup run. The Nigerian shot-stopper was instrumental in the club’s dramatic semi-final victory over Liverpool, producing another assured performance as Brighton secured their place in the final.
She also featured prominently in Brighton’s league victory over Manchester City earlier in the season, a result that has boosted belief within the squad that another upset is possible on the biggest stage.
Among her standout moments this season was a spectacular fingertip save against Liverpool in November, a stop that earned the Women’s Super League Save of the Month award and later a nomination for Save of the Season.
Nnadozie arrives at Wembley with an impressive record, having been named Africa’s Best Female Goalkeeper for three consecutive years.
Her performances for both club and country have established her as one of Africa’s most influential footballers and a leading figure for the Super Falcons.
Speaking ahead of the final, the goalkeeper expressed her excitement about the occasion.
“I can’t wait to play at Wembley. So excited! I can’t wait, bring it on. It’s super amazing,” Nnadozie said during the pre-match press conference.
“This team has been through a lot this season. We’ve worked hard, and we deserve it.”
She also paid tribute to Brighton supporters for their unwavering backing throughout the campaign.
“Big thank you to our fans because they have been with us from day one. Even when we travel far away to play, they are there before us. As soon as we step off the bus, they are screaming.
“Thank you, keep supporting, keep praying for us, and hopefully we will make you proud on Sunday.”
Victory over Manchester City would mark a historic achievement for Brighton, delivering the club’s first major trophy.
For Nnadozie, it would provide the perfect ending to an exceptional first season in England, adding another major honour to an already impressive career.
Should Brighton lift the trophy under the famous Wembley arch, it would not only be a landmark moment for the club but also another proud chapter for Nigerian football, with Nnadozie once again flying the flag for the nation on the global stage.
