Niger Tornadoes get Niger Governor’s boost ahead of NPFL resumption
By Wale Mustapha
Chairman of Niger Tornadoes Adamu Aliyu has tasked the players and officials of Niger Tornadoes to double their efforts in the second stanza of Nigeria Premier Football League following a not too impressive first round.
Speaking on Saturday in Minna, Aliyu delivered the one million naira pledge promised the team by the Executive Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sanni Bello for their last league game against Dakkada FC.
Governor Bello had pledged the sum of one million naira to the team should they record victory against their Uyo based visitors and David Okoromi ended a five-match winless run with the matchwinner for Tornadoes.
On his part, technical adviser of the club, Abubakar Bala thanked Governor Bello for his kind gesture and commitment towards the team’s success, stressing his support to boost the side to impress in the second round.
“I feel we should show appreciation to our Governor for doing well this time as regards motivation, which has been lacking for a long time,” Bala told the club media.
“For us, this is the tonic needed to galvanise the team going forward as it has been a tough first stanza, as its never easy playing home matches away from home.
“Despite the hurdles, we are still on track to finish the season on a high. Not forgetting our amiable Chairman, Honourable Aliyu, credit to him for his hard work and support towards the team.
“We have used the election break to drill and reinforced the team with quality legs as we are working tirelessly on the team’s weak areas we had identified in the first round. I don’t want to make any promises but I want to assure everyone that Tornadoes will get it right in the second stanza of the season.”
Tornadoes finished the first half of the season fifth on the Group B log with 12 points and keeping their hunt for the Super 6 playoffs ticket alive.
