Nigerian sports lawyer, Ezeaku Amobi has described Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF)’s ruling ordering Kano Pillars to pay goalkeeper Akpan Bassey his entitlement over a breach of contractual agreement as a win for the game.
In a decision reached on Friday, the Players’ Status Committee of NFF directed Kano Pillars FC to pay the sum of N11,800,000 to their former player, Akpan Bassey for breach of contractual agreement.
In the verdict on the case, the NFF has that the club unilaterally terminated Bassey’s contract which contravened Article 14 and Article 17 of FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players RSTP(2019).
Barrister Amobi, who was one time Team Manager of Enugu Rangers admits that the ruling was not only for Bassey but also a victory for NigeriafFootball and the sanctity of contract.
“We must thank the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), specially for deeming it fit to look into this matter and doing justice to it,” the former footballer turned administrator wrote on social media.
“It’s also a called for action by the IMC to insist that clubs with existing players contract, must ensure that these players also have a copy of the contract.
“In this way, we will be heading towards credibility and integrity, because contracts and contractual stability is the life wire of every healthy football system. This victory is a win for all, and we expect Kano Pillars to abide by the decision of NFF Players Status and Arbitration Committee”.
