Nigeria’s U20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, have concluded a rigorous three-week training camp in Abuja in preparation for their decisive FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Malawi’s U20 side.
The team is set to arrive in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, on Sunday to host the first leg of the final qualifying round on Saturday, 2nd May. The camp emphasized discipline, resilience, and relentless effort, with players undergoing intensive sessions to achieve peak fitness and tactical sharpness ahead of the crucial encounter.
Head Coach Moses Aduku expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness. “The girls have shown great character and determination throughout the camp. We have worked extensively on tactics, fitness, and team cohesion. I am optimistic about our readiness and confident the players will rise to the occasion,” he said.
Team captain Joy Igbokwe echoed her coach’s sentiment, calling on Nigerians to support the team. “We are fully prepared and focused on the task ahead. We ask Nigerians for their prayers and support as we go into this important match. We are determined to make the country proud,” she affirmed.
The Falconets aim to secure a strong first-leg advantage as they pursue qualification for this year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals, scheduled to be held in Poland from 5th to 26th September.
Nigeria has a storied history in the competition, having qualified for and participated in all previous editions since the tournament’s inception as an U19 event in Canada 24 years ago.
