Nigeria football playing culture worries Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso
By Oyediji Oluwasegun Babatunde
Head coach of the Nigeria national U-20 team, Ladan Bosso has revealed his frustration with the country’s football playing culture.
The Nigeria national teams are known for possessive and wing play which has brought glory to the teams winning three African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1980, 1994, and 2013, Olympic gold (1996), silver (2008), and bronze (2016) medals as well as record five FIFA U-17 World Cup titles.

And the Chairman of Nigeria Football Coaches Association also faulted the appointment of foreign coaches at senior level which has consistently affected the country’s playing culture.

“We were taught the Arsenal pattern of playing and the LaLiga pattern of playing but at the end of the day when we teach our players the aspect we were taught, they bring in a foreign technical adviser from Germany,” Bosso told Brila FM.
“The Arsenal and La Liga way is different from that of Germany. If we are taught to educate and polish our players the Arsenal or LaLiga way of playing, they will now hand them to a German coach.”
Bosso described the mixture of the pattern of play from the age-grade coaches to that of foreign coaches appointed to tinker the team at the senior level as concoction which isn’t good for the national teams.
“What do you think about this?” He continued. “It’s like a concoction and will be very difficult for the players to blend and get the root of the whole thing and get a playing culture in Nigeria.
“The issue of bringing a foreign Technical Adviser depends on what the Federation wants. But as far as I am concerned and on behalf of others I think it’s a wrong thing to continue with. We have seen the mistakes before.” Bosso concluded.
