Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface is set to spend about four months out of football action after picking up an injury in the national camp.

The former Union Saint-Gilloise striker suffered the injury at the Super Eagles training camp in Abu Dhabi.

This comes as a big blow for Xabi Alonso as his team will be without their top scorer for the crucial stages of the season.

Leverkusen are four points clear of record champions, Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table, with Boniface playing a pivotal role in that.

The 23-year-old has wowed the Bundesliga with 10 goals and seven assists in sixteen league starts.

OGC Nice’s Terem Moffi has been drafted into the squad as Boniface’s replacement and has traveled to Ivory Coast with the rest of the team.

Bayer Leverkusen has now taken to social media to give an update on his injury as they confirmed that the Nigerian will need surgery and will be out until April.

“We wish you a speedy recovery, Boni! 🙏

“@boniface_jrn suffered a muscle-tendon injury in the right adductor area.

“Our striker will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to be out of action until early April. 🤕

With this news, Boniface will miss Leverkusen’s game against Bayern Munich, alongside their knock-out games in the UEFA Europa league.
