Ashleigh Plumptre offers reason for choosing Nigeria ahead of England

By Saheed Afolabi
Ashleigh Plumptre has disclosed why she chose Nigeria ahead of England to play internationally.
The 25 year old defender played for England at the youth level before switching allegiance to play for Nigeria officially in 2022.
The Super Falcons player said she’s more interested in playing football and chose where she thinks its best for her.
Plumptre added, finding her heritage due to the fact that her father is half Niger and half English prompted her to play for the Super Falcons.
“For me, I always say that I have to play football for more than just playing it itself. The same way that I chose to join Leicester because of my hometown’s club,” Plumptre was quoted by Sports Brief.
“With Nigeria, I wanted to uncover more of my heritage that I hadn’t delved into before because my dad is half-Nigerian and half-English. My grandad was born in Lagos.
“But I’ve been brought up very British, so, I want to join the Nigerian team where I got to experience food like this, experience more of the culture, I guess.”
Plumptre is presently a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.
