Newly promoted side, Burnley have announced the signing of 18-year-old winger of Nigerian descent, Luca Koleosho from Espanyol for £2.6m plus £860,000 in add-ons.
Koleosho, who was part of the Italy squad that won the U19 European Championship this summer, has agreed a four-year deal.
Born in the USA to a Nigerian father and Italian-Canadian Mother, Koleosho played for Manhattan Kickers as a youngster before moving to Spain with his parents to pursue his football career and join Reus Football Club.
The 18-year-old represented the USA at the U15 level and was called up to Canada’s senior side last year but didn’t make an appearance. With Koleosho now representing Italy U19s after receiving his first call-up earlier this year for the Azzurri, he still eligible to play for Nigeria.
He scored one goal in four substitute appearances as Espanyol were relegated from La Liga last season.
“As soon as I got the call from the coach (Vincent Kompany), I knew I wanted to come here,” he told the club website.
“We spoke about the way they would help me improve and get better as a player and I was just excited by it.
“It feels amazing to be here. I can’t wait to get started now.”
