Patrice Motsepe: CAF President re-elected for another term

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed for a second four-year term.

His re-election as the CAF President was confirmed during the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly which took place in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.

Under his leadership, the organization set several new records at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cote d’Ivoire 2023, attracting a record 1.4 billion viewers worldwide.

Prizemoney for major tournaments, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, has also increased significantly, alongside enhanced financial support for Member Associations.

The 63-year-old faced no opposition after the nomination deadline passed in November 2024.

His decision to run again followed requests from Member Association Presidents and key stakeholders.

The 63-year-old secured his second term at the Extraordinary Congress without opposition.

He will continue another term as CAF President for a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.

The Extraordinary Congress was attended by Members Association (MA) including Nigeria, Zonal Presidents, CAF Executive Committee members, and African representatives in the FIFA Council.

Top of the attendees was the FIFA President, Gianni Infantino who praised all MAs for the development of football on the continent.

He said the development of football on the continent is yielding results at the FIFA World Cup, Women’s World Cup, and other international tournaments.
