Chrisantus Uche on target in Getafe win over Girona

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria star Chrisantus Uche was on target as Getafe extended their unbeaten La Liga streak to six matches with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Girona at the Estadio Municipal de Montilivi.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined Getafe from lower-league club Ceuta last summer, has made a significant impact at the club.

Uche, who was deployed as a twin striker, opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, finishing clinically into the bottom-left corner after a costly slip by Girona’s Ladislav Krejčí.

With his third goal of the season, Uche, who has been in tremendous form, was named in the provisional squad for next month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Despite constant pressure from Getafe, Girona equalized on the hour mark when Yangel Herrera powered a header into the far corner.

However, Getafe regained the lead almost instantly after José Bordalás introduced Borja Mayoral, who buried a rebound from close range with just his second touch.

This season, Uche has attracted interest from top clubs including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and several Premier League sides.

Getafe has reportedly set a €25 million price tag on the Nigerian, and they may cash in on him during the summer transfer window.
