CAFCC Preview: Rivers United engage Dreams FC in make or break tie
By Wale Mustapha
Rivers United will require to be in their best ever form on Sunday when they take on Dreams FC from Ghana in the final group stage encounter for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United, being the only Nigerian team in the competition stand a chance to secure a quarterfinal berth with a victory that must also come with at least three goal margin.
Dreams FC are sitting comfortably at the summit of the group after last weekend win over Club Africain with 12 points from five games.
The Nigerian side also recorded a morale boosting win over Lobito which placed them on nine points.
Dreams FC won the reverse fixture by 2-1 in Ghana and are only in Nigeria to avoid defeat which will be enough for them to qualify for the knockout stages.
Coach Abdul Zito led side have shown resilience and determination at the continental games winning four out of five. They will be hoping to repeat same feat against Rivers United on Sunday.
For Rivers United, they will be inspired with their present free scoring mode having scored three goals against Petro Athletico of Lobito last week.
The likes of captain Nyima Nwagua, Alex Oyowah, Farouk Mohammed, Ekerette Udom and others must be at their best to ensure Rivers United did not only win but get the needed goals.
The match is slated for Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State by 5pm.
