Kano Pillars are closing in on a deal to appoint veteran coach Mohammed Babaganaru as their Technical Adviser ahead of the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, sources close to the club have revealed.
The Sai Masu Gida finished mid-table last season, following a turbulent campaign marked by inconsistent performances and internal issues under former manager Usman Abdallah.
As the club looks to rebuild, Babaganaru has emerged as the frontrunner to take charge.
If appointed, it would mark Babaganaru’s third stint with the Pyramid side, having previously led them to notable successes in earlier spells.
The Yobe State-born tactician is currently a free agent after stepping down as Technical Adviser of Akwa United in December.
Pillars’ management is said to be impressed by Babaganaru’s experience and familiarity with the club, seeing him as the ideal candidate to restore stability and push for a stronger finish next season.
However, the club is also monitoring Salisu Yusuf, current head coach of Nasarawa United, as an alternative option.
Yusuf, who successfully steered the Solid Miners away from relegation last season, is yet to agree to a contract extension.
With pre-season preparations on the horizon, Kano Pillars are expected to make a final decision in the coming days as they seek experienced leadership to guide their ambitions for the 2025/26 NPFL campaign.
