“Choice of coaches for Super Falcons is very wrong” – Patience Avre
By Saheed Afolabi
Former Nigeria international, Patience Avre has thrown her weight behind Nigeria indigenous coaches to coach the country’s senior national women’s team.
The West African giants had made a huge set back on the global stage since the taking over of Randy Waldrum, as the head coach in October 2021 following the exit of Thomas Dennerby.
The former Super Falcons star feels disappointed with the lack of cohesion, while calling for the team’s restructuring and the return of local coaches to handle the nine-time African champions.
“I will say back then we were very mature and we played as a team, but I can’t say the same of this current team and I don’t know what’s going on in their camp,” Avre said on Football Live.
“But right now the choice of coaches is very wrong. They need to restructure the team and put someone who understands the team there and they have coaches at home who can do the job.
“I don’t understand why they are bringing in foreign coaches for the Falcons. Let them try home-based coaches or some of the women coaches abroad and people will see the difference.”
American, Randy Waldrum took up the role of head coach of the Super Falcons in October 2020 but have failed to have a significant impact with the team.
Waldrum had a fallout with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the way his former assistant was dismissed from the team and blamed the glasshouse for the Super Falcons misfortunes.
