Nigeria defender, Kenneth Omeruo has provided updates on decision surrounding his future with the national team.
Omeruo was a bit part player for the Super Eagles at the just concluded African Cup of Nations, AFCON which Nigeria finished runners up following a 2-1 defeat in the final against Ivory Coast on Sunday.
The Kasimpasa centre back featured in five games for the three-time African champions, starting only once and coming on in the rest as a substitute.
Responding to questions on his international career after the team arrived Abuja, Omeruo disclosed that he’s not considering retirement anytime soon as he will always make himself available for national team duty.
“My focus now is going back, continue playing regularly for my club and be available if called upon,” Omeruo said.
The former Chelsea defender admitted that the defeat to Ivory Coast was a bitter pill to swallow despite putting in so much to win the match.
He also disagreed with the notion of many pundits about the current of Super Eagles having the needed mentality to win any title.
“It was hurtful because we worked hard a lot from the starting to get to the final so it was difficult to take the loss but the players worked hard and gave it all throughout and didn’t complain for anything,” he continued.
“It happens, it is football but we have to build on this and focus on the next task. I don’t, we have everything needed to win the title. It just wasn’t our day, we have to accept it and go forward.”
