Mikel Obi Dismisses Everton Rumors, Affirms Commitment to Tianjin TEDA

In an exclusive interview with Tianjin TV, Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel unequivocally denied recent rumors linking him with a January move to Everton, asserting his steadfast commitment to his current Chinese Super League (CSL) team, Tianjin Teda. The former Chelsea midfielder categorically labeled the reports as “false rumors.”
“I don’t know from where such a rumor could come, but this story is untrue,” Mikel affirmed, putting to rest speculations surrounding a potential return to the English Premier League. Mikel, who made a high-profile move to Tianjin TEDA in January, emphasized his dedication to the CSL side, with his contractual obligation extending until 2019.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the competitive nature of the CSL, Mikel acknowledged the league’s standing compared to the Premier League but highlighted its commendable standard. “The CSL lags behind the Premier League, but their level is still quite high. I believe more matches will help me get in shape for the 2018 World Cup,” Mikel stated, outlining his ambitions for the upcoming football spectacle.
As the transfer window looms, Mikel anticipates increased speculation but remains resolute in dismissing any rumors that may arise. Looking ahead, the Super Eagles captain expressed a fervent desire for an injury-free season in 2019 and aims to contribute significantly to Tianjin TEDA’s success, underscoring his dedication to the Chinese football club.
