FIFA launches Club Management Program in Nigeria to boost Football Governance

By Damilola Oyebode
World football governing body FIFA will oversee a two-day club management program in Nigeria aimed at strengthening governance, promoting financial autonomy, and fostering sustainable development within the country’s football ecosystem.
The program, scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 3 and Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, will bring together club chairmen, chief executive officers, and key stakeholders from across Nigeria’s football leagues.
The initiative is designed to examine the operational and financial models of Nigerian football clubs, while opening new perspectives on governance, commercial growth, and global competitiveness.
A total of 40 participants are expected—comprising the chairman and CEO of each Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club—as well as leadership representatives from the Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO).
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, will lead the Nigerian delegation, joined by NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye and NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.
Each NPFL club is expected to present a strategic document outlining a roadmap to financial independence and branding development.
FIFA’s delegation will be headed by El Hadji Wack Diop, Head of the FIFA Regional Office for West and Central Africa, and will include experts such as Rasoamahenina Sanda Manonisoa, Marcos Piccalo, Federico Perez, Javier Sobrino, and Laurent Colette.
The program reflects FIFA’s commitment to developing football governance globally and is expected to serve as a catalyst for transformative reforms within Nigerian club football.
