By Saheed Afolabi
Sporting Lagos head coach, Paul Offor has revealed the secret of the masterclass performance against Remo Stars in the Southwest Derby.
The Noisy Lagosians brought in their best performance to inflict an heavy 4-1 defeat on the Sky Blue Stars.
Reminiscing on the huge victory on home ground, Offor said the players showed their class and quality to score four goals in a derby game against a top opponent, assuring that the club would focus their attention on enjoying their games to get the maximum points at stake in subsequent matches.
“Great victory for the players. The character and quality they showed today is something we are very proud of,” Offor told the media.
” I’m also proud as their coach for them to display this in front of the fans, this is a derby and scoring four goals against Remo Stars today is massive. We are out of the relegation zone, we just want to continue playing football enjoy ourselves and entertain our fans and get all the points we can get.
“The players we have allowed us to do what we did today we didn’t set up the same way. We played a 4-3-3, we knew that, they (Remo Stars) were going to play with three players at the back with two strikers. We looked for a way to exploit the spaces on the flank.
“We knew keeping our wingers on the central defenders will give us advantage believing we have speed in Philip, Pascal and Odibo. I said earlier in the Prematch interview that the game will be a game of transition, it will be a game of second balls.
“When you win the second balls, it gives you the transition at the opposing goal then you have the advantage and that’s exactly what we did today.
“I’m happy with the speed and quality the players showed. It’s their qualities that allowed us win this game.”
Sporting Lagos placed on 12th position on the NPFL table will visit Niger Tornadoes in their next game on Wednesday, March 13.
